Memphis Airport Prepares for Busy Labor Day Weekend with Enhanced Security

Memphis International Airport (MEM) is gearing up for a busy Labor Day weekend, anticipating over 48,000 travelers passing through its checkpoints between August 29 and September 3. To ensure a smooth and efficient travel experience, MEM has implemented various strategies and enhanced security measures.

The busiest travel day is projected to be Friday, August 30, with over 9,900 passengers expected to pass through security. MEM recommends arriving at least two hours before scheduled departure, especially for those with early morning flights between 4 and 7 a.m., as security lines tend to be longest during these hours. Travelers can also save time by checking in online via their airline’s website before heading to the airport.

MEM has upgraded its security screening process with the introduction of advanced Computed Tomography (CT) equipment. This new technology allows passengers to keep laptops, electronic devices, and 3-1-1 compliant liquids in their carry-on bags during screening, streamlining the security process. Passengers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the updated procedures for a smoother security screening experience.

To help manage the anticipated influx of travelers, MEM parking lots are expected to reach full capacity on peak travel days. Additional signage and extra parking staff will be available to guide drivers to open spots. For added convenience, those parking in the blue or yellow lots can consider dropping off luggage and passengers at the terminal before finding a parking space. Shuttle services are available to transport passengers between the blue and yellow parking lots and the terminal.

By planning ahead and following these recommendations, travelers can enjoy a more relaxed and efficient travel experience during the busy Labor Day weekend.
