Mercedes-Benz Unveils Production-Ready All-Electric G-Class: G 580 EQ

The G 580 EQ retains the robust and angular silhouette of the traditional G-Class, incorporating advanced features and sustainable innovations. Powered by four electric motors producing an impressive 432 kW (600 hp) and 858 lb-ft of torque, this electric G-Class delivers unparalleled off-road capability. Its 116 kWh lithium-ion battery provides a range of up to 293 miles per charge, according to WLTP standards.

To accommodate the electric drive, the G 580 EQ features a reinforced ladder frame, ensuring exceptional durability and maintaining the vehicle’s renowned off-road prowess. The four individually controlled electric motors not only enhance off-road performance but also enable unique features like the G-TURN, which allows for almost zero-radius turns, and G-STEERING, providing a tighter turning circle in challenging terrains.

The electric G-Class surpasses its predecessors in environmental adaptability, showcasing a gradability of 100% on suitable surfaces and a maximum fording depth of 850 millimeters, exceeding conventionally powered models by 150 millimeters. Intelligent torque vectoring replicates the functionality of conventional differential locks, optimizing traction and control.

Visually, the G 580 EQ with EQ Technology is distinguished by an optional black-panel radiator grille, air curtains, and a redesigned hood for improved aerodynamics. The interior boasts the state-of-the-art MBUX infotainment system, ambient lighting, and optional luxury amenities such as temperature-controlled cup holders and the Burmester 3D surround sound system.

The G 580 EQ is set to make its market debut with a starting price of €142,621 EUR or approximately $152,715 USD. To commemorate the launch, a special EDITION ONE model will be available for just over $200,000 USD, offering expanded standard features and exclusive design elements.

Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and Chief Technology Officer, expressed his enthusiasm: “With its more than 45-year legacy, the G-Class has consistently embraced the most advanced drive technology available. The all-new electric model elevates the performance of our off-road icon to unprecedented levels, staying true to its distinctive character.”
