Get ready for major upgrades at Mfuwe International Airport starting June 13, 2024! Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) has announced extensive enhancements to improve safety, operational efficiency, reliability, and capacity. These enhancements are crucial to accommodate the growing number of passengers visiting the renowned South Luangwa. Initially, ZACL planned to temporarily close the airport during construction. However, Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali emphasized the need to keep the airport operational to avoid disruptions during the peak tourism season. If all goes according to plan, the construction should be completed by September 2024, just before the summer rains arrive around November. Key areas of focus for the upgrades include enhanced runway lighting, improved terminal facilities, and upgraded ground handling equipment. These improvements will ensure a seamless and efficient travel experience for all passengers. ZACL is committed to minimizing disruptions during the construction period. The airport will remain fully operational, ensuring that travelers can continue to access the beautiful South Luangwa. Upon completion, these upgrades will significantly enhance Mfuwe International Airport, positioning it as a modern and efficient gateway to one of Zambia’s most popular tourist destinations.
