MGTO’s ‘Experience Macao’ Roadshow Draws Large Crowds in Jakarta

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) successfully held the “Experience Macao” roadshow in Jakarta from May 9-12. The event, which featured themed booths and interactive games, was a collaborative effort with Macao’s travel trade and Indonesian tourism operators to launch special travel promotions. The event attracted a large crowd, offering them a taste of Macao’s enhanced “tourism +” concept, as part of MGTO’s focus on the Southeast Asia market.

The roadshow, MGTO’s third international promotional event of 2024, drew approximately 217,000 attendees over four days at the Central Park Mall in Jakarta. It showcased Macao’s rich diversity in tourism experiences and featured performances by popular Indonesian artists.

The “EXPERIENCE MACAO” roadshow included interactive zones such as a virtual reality travel experience to Macao, a Macau Grand Prix racing simulator, a fireworks game, and a large interactive installation modeled after a Portuguese egg tart. The event highlighted the vibrant “tourism +” experiences available in Macao, with contributions from the Economic Development Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and six major resort enterprises in Macao. Air Macau and nine Indonesian travel agencies also offered special deals on flights, hotels, and other travel experiences, which were well-received by attendees.

Alongside the roadshow, MGTO led a delegation of Macao’s travel trade to Jakarta for the “Macao Tourism + MICE Product Updates Seminar & Travel Mart,” which brought together about 100 industry participants from both regions to explore partnership opportunities. The seminar was instrumental in attracting potential leisure and MICE travelers from Indonesia.

The roadshow enjoyed extensive media coverage across Indonesian newspapers, media outlets, websites, and on major screens, as well as on MGTO’s social media platforms and a dedicated webpage. On-site media engagements and interviews further highlighted Macao’s latest travel trends. Indonesian celebrities including singer Lyodra, TBA band, and boy group UN1TY performed at the event, attracting large crowds. Influencers Karin Novilda and Fahira Mira also promoted the roadshow, sharing their experiences through videos and posts, enhancing the event’s reach and impact on destination branding.

In 2024, MGTO continues to aggressively promote Macao through a series of mega roadshows across various cities including Tokyo, Singapore, Jakarta, and upcoming events in Seoul, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur. These events are designed to showcase Macao’s “tourism +” offerings and support industry partners in exploring business opportunities through destination presentations and networking seminars. MGTO remains committed to participating in major regional and international travel fairs to elevate Macao’s global stature as a premier travel destination.
