Michigan State’s running back room is undergoing a transformation, with the addition of transfer Kay’ron Lynch-Adams and the departure of Jalen Berger to the transfer portal. Lynch-Adams, a former Rutgers and UMass standout, joins the Spartans after a breakout season where he rushed for over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns. His arrival brings experience and depth to a backfield led by Nathan Carter, who impressed during spring practice.
Meanwhile, Berger’s departure marks the second time he has entered the transfer portal during his career. He led the Spartans in rushing in 2022 but missed significant time due to injuries last season. His exit follows that of Davion Primm, leaving Michigan State with a void to fill in its backfield.
As the Spartans navigate the transfer portal landscape, they have also added two running backs in the 2024 recruiting class: Brandon Tullis and Makhi Frazier. Tullis, a true freshman early enrollee, showcased his potential during the spring scrimmage, while Frazier is expected to join the team in the summer. These additions will provide depth and competition within the running back position for first-year head coach Jonathan Smith.
