Michigan Tech Partners with American Center for Mobility to Advance Mobility Technologies

The American Center for Mobility (ACM), a leading proving ground for advancing mobility technologies, has entered into a strategic partnership with Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech). This collaboration aims to enhance ACM’s engineering capabilities and accelerate the development of safe, sustainable, and secure mobility technologies.

Michigan Tech brings a wealth of expertise in sustainable vehicle technologies and advanced mobility solutions to the partnership. The university has a strong track record in this field, with renowned facilities like the Advanced Power Systems Laboratories (APS LABS), the Keweenaw Research Center (KRC), and the Michigan Tech Research Institute (MTRI). These facilities have been instrumental in developing cutting-edge research and testing programs, as well as industry expertise.

Through this multi-year agreement, Michigan Tech will provide a comprehensive range of engineering services to ACM’s customers. These services will leverage the university’s deep industry knowledge and expertise, ensuring that ACM’s clients have access to the latest advancements in mobility technology. This collaboration represents a significant step forward for both organizations. It will allow ACM to further expand its capabilities and offer even more comprehensive services to its customers. For Michigan Tech, it provides a unique opportunity to extend its reach and impact within the mobility sector.

The partnership is built upon a strong foundation of collaboration. Michigan Tech and ACM have a long history of working together, securing over $20 million in joint federal funding to date. This partnership builds on that success and promises to deliver even greater achievements in the years to come.

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Michigan Technological University to the American Center for Mobility,” said Reuben Sarkar, President & CEO of ACM. “Their exceptional support and engineering expertise will undoubtedly enhance our capabilities and industry knowledge. This partnership reassures ACM as the leader of mobility innovation and leader in the ecosystem.”

“The American Center for Mobility and Michigan Tech are recognized leaders in advanced mobility research and technology,” said Rick Koubek, President of Michigan Tech. “Joining forces will not only accelerate our efforts, but also provide opportunities previously unrealized for pushing the boundaries of advanced mobility.”

Michigan Tech’s APS LABS will spearhead the university’s collaboration with ACM. APS LABS is a multidisciplinary research center that specializes in developing clean, efficient, and sustainable mobility and power systems technologies. The team has a wide range of expertise, from propulsion systems research and development to complete vehicle builds. They bring a unique blend of academic resources and industry experience to the partnership.

The partnership is expected to yield significant results, contributing to the development of next-generation mobility technologies. It will also help to solidify Michigan’s position as a global leader in the automotive and mobility industries. ACM’s proving ground in Ypsilanti, Michigan, will serve as a hub for this collaboration, providing a unique and expansive testing environment for the development of advanced mobility technologies.

“Over the past seven years, ACM and Michigan Tech have collaborated with great success, securing research projects through partnerships with federal agencies,” said APS LABS Director Jeffrey D. Naber. “This collaboration unites our synergistic teams, dedicated to advancing the development of the next generation of mobility technologies.”
