Michiganders are accustomed to unpredictable spring weather, and Tuesday will be no exception. A cold front is set to arrive, bringing a chance of rain for most of Michigan. While severe weather is unlikely, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Rapids expects the most active weather between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. Damaging winds and hail up to one inch are possible during this time.
The northern half of the Lower Peninsula, from Fremont to Alma and eastward, has an elevated risk. The NWS office in Gaylord forecasts isolated thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening, with the potential for heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. As winds shift northwest and temperatures drop below freezing, the precipitation will transition to light snow.
Overnight temperatures in the Upper Peninsula could reach 15 degrees, creating a chilly start to Wednesday. The NWS office in Marquette predicts rain showers ahead of the cold front, followed by breezy northerly winds and clear skies. Wednesday will bring another cool day with sunny conditions.
