Marshella Chidester, a 66-year-old Michigan woman, has been charged with second-degree murder and multiple other offenses following a horrific crash at the Swan Boat Club in Monroe County on Saturday. The tragic incident claimed the lives of 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and her 4-year-old brother, Zayn Phillips. Their mother and another sibling were among the individuals who sustained injuries in the crash. Authorities have declined to reveal the intended honoree of the birthday celebration taking place at the boat club.
According to court records, Chidester faces eight charges related to the deadly crash. She has remained in police custody since the incident and was scheduled to appear in court later on Tuesday. Prosecuting attorney Jeff Yorkey confirmed Chidester’s upcoming court date, and a request for comment has been sent to her attorney, but no response has been received thus far.
The Detroit News has reported that Chidester previously held the position of commodore at the Swan Boat Club. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the identities of the deceased children, Alanah and Zayn Phillips. Their mother and one of their siblings were among those who suffered injuries in the crash.
This news is currently trending due to its themes of drunk driving, fatal car accidents, and the tragic loss of innocent lives. The severity of the charges against Chidester and the ongoing investigation into the incident are also contributing factors to its prominence in the news cycle.
