Family and Friends Mourn Victim of Milwaukee Bus Crash
Michael Captain, 31, was identified as the passenger who died in the deadly crash between a car and a Milwaukee County Transit bus on Saturday night.
The crash occurred at North 35th Street and Wisconsin Avenue around 9:30 p.m. According to Milwaukee Police, the car traveling south on 35th Street ignored a red light and struck the bus.
Nine people in both vehicles were injured, including the driver of the car and another passenger who sustained life-threatening injuries. Seven bus passengers were also injured but are expected to recover.
Michael’s family and friends gathered at the scene on Monday to express their grief and remember him. They tied balloons to a post and lit candles in his memory. His aunt, Tina Biskupski, described Michael as funny, outgoing, and loved by all. She said he was about to start a new job.
Michael’s father, who shares the same first name, was too distraught to speak on camera but told reporters that he was supposed to meet with Michael on Sunday. Biskupski said that Michael’s parents are deeply saddened by his loss and that he had his whole life ahead of him.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Police have taken the driver of the car into custody.
