Mini Aceman: Electric-Only Crossover Arriving in Australia in 2024

The Mini Aceman, the company’s smallest and first electric-only crossover, has been revealed at the 2024 Beijing motor show. Mini Australia has confirmed that the Aceman will be arriving in local showrooms from the fourth quarter of 2024, with local pricing and specifications to be announced closer to its Australian debut.

The Aceman is based on the same all-electric Spotlight architecture developed with Chinese automaker GWM, which also underpins the electric Cooper hatch. Both models will be built for global markets in a joint venture factory in Zhangjiagang, China.

Measuring 4.07m long, 1.75m wide, and 1.50m tall, the Aceman is slightly larger than the Cooper. It offers a boot space of 300L with all five seats upright and 1005L with the 60/40 split-fold rear seats folded down.

Stylistically, the Aceman combines design cues from the larger Countryman, such as its squared-off headlights, plastic cladding, and angular fenders, with elements from the electric Cooper, including the lift-up door handles and non-clamshell bonnet.

At launch, the Aceman will be available with two drivetrain choices: E and SE. Both variants feature a single electric motor driving the wheels and a maximum AC charging rate of 11kW. The base E model offers 135kW and 290Nm, enabling a 0-100km/h time of 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 160km/h. It comes with a 42.5kWh battery that supports DC fast charging up to 75kW and provides a WLTP driving range of 310km.

The more powerful SE variant boasts 160kW and 330Nm, resulting in a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 170km/h. It features a larger 54.2kWh battery pack and has a claimed WLTP range of 406km.

In addition to the two drivetrains, the Aceman will be offered in four trim lines: Essential, Classic, Favoured, and JCW. The Classic trim adds a gloss black grille frame, contrasting roof and mirrors, and body-colored bumpers. The Favoured trim features white wing mirror caps, a silver grille frame, and the option of a multi-tone roof, while the sporty JCW spec includes more aggressive bumpers, a red roof, red bonnet stripes, and gloss black trim.

Inside, the Aceman has a dashboard layout similar to the electric and petrol-powered Cooper models and the latest Mini Cooper Convertible. It features a steering wheel with a large central boss and, on some trim levels, a head-up display. The centerpiece of the dashboard is a 9.5-inch circular OLED touchscreen that displays instrumentation and controls for infotainment and climate systems. Below the screen is a row of physical switches for essential functions such as the electronic parking brake, gear selector, and climate control.

The Aceman offers a range of advanced technology features, including a wireless smartphone charging pad, automated parking, remote parking via smartphone, a natural language voice assistant, trailer assist, and the ability to use a smartphone as a digital key.
