Minor League Recap: Curve Fall to Akron, Greensboro Blanked

Indianapolis Indians (Triple-A)

The Indianapolis Indians lost 7-4 to the Omaha Storm Chasers on Tuesday. First baseman Jake Lamb went 3-for-3 with two singles, a double, a walk, and an RBI. Second baseman Nick Gonzales went 2-for-4 with two singles, a walk, and a strikeout. Center fielder Ji Hwan Bae finished 1-for-4 with a single, a walk, three strikeouts, and two runs scored. Catcher Yasmani Grandal went 2-for-5 with an RBI double, a single, and a run scored. Shortstop Liover Peguero went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts, a walk, and an RBI.

Left-handed pitcher Cam Alldred (0-3, 9.00) started and went three innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, walking three, and striking out four while taking the loss. Right-handed pitcher Ben Heller (0.00) and left-handed pitcher Jose Hernandez (16.20) each threw a shutout inning in relief. Right-handed pitcher Carmen Mlodzinski (3.38) allowed three hits, including a solo home run, walked two, and struck out two in his two innings of work.

The Indians will next play on Wednesday at Omaha at 12:05 p.m.

Altoona Curve (Double-A)

The Altoona Curve mustered little offense in a 4-0 loss to the Akron RubberDucks on Tuesday. First baseman Aaron Shackelford had both Curve hits with a single and a double. Third baseman Joe Perez went 0-for-1 with three walks and a strikeout. Designated hitter Jackson Glenn went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks and a strikeout, and shortstop Tsung-Che Cheng was 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout.

Right-handed pitcher Chris Gau (0-2, 3.12) went 2⅔ innings, yielded three unearned runs on five hits, including a two-run homer, struck out three, and took the loss. Right-handed pitcher Cameron Junker (11.81) gave up one run on one hit, walked three, and fanned one. Right-handed pitcher Brad Case (3.18) struck out three in three shutout relief innings.

The Curve will next play on Wednesday against Akron at 11:00 a.m.

Greensboro Grasshoppers (High-A)

The Greensboro Grasshoppers totaled five hits in an 8-0 shutout loss to the Greenville Drive on Tuesday. Right-handed pitcher Alessandro Ercolani (1-1, 1.38) allowed one unearned run on three hits, walked two, and struck out one in five innings and suffered the loss. Right-handed pitcher Drake Fellows (5.87) gave up four runs on six hits, walked one, and struck out one in two innings. Right-handed pitcher Jaycob Deese (9.00) went one inning and yielded three runs on three hits and struck out one.

Third baseman Charles McAdoo went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and a strikeout. Left fielder Roldolfo Nolasco was 1-for-4 with a double and a strikeout. Right fielder Hudson Head singled and was hit by a pitch, finishing 1-for-2. Center fielder Sammy Siani singled in four plate appearances. Second baseman Termarr Johnson remains mired in a slump, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, a pop out, and a fly out.

The Grasshoppers will next play on Wednesday at Greenville at 7:05 p.m.

Bradenton Marauders (Low-A)

The Bradenton Marauders dropped a 2-1 decision to the Clearwater Threshers on Tuesday. Starting right-handed pitcher Carlos Jimenez (0-2, 5.40) allowed two runs on one hit, walked five, and struck out four in two innings and got the loss. Right-handed pitcher Elijah Birdsong (0.00) walked one, struck out one, and allowed one hit in two innings of relief. Left-handed pitcher Hunter Furtado (10.57) fanned two and yielded a hit in two shutout innings. Right-handed pitcher Landon Tomkins (3.27) walked two and struck out two in a pair of shutout frames.

Right fielder Esmerlyn Valdez went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly and two strikeouts. Catcher Omar Alfonzo was 1-for-2 with a single, two walks, and scored on Valdez’s sac fly. Center fielder Shalin Polanco was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

The Marauders will next play on Wednesday at Clearwater at 6:30 p.m.
