A 13-year-old girl, Tasmeeth Tamsam, was rescued by the Government Railway Police in Vishakhapatnam on Thursday. Tasmeeth, a resident of Kazhakkoottam Block in Trivandrum, Kerala, had left her home on August 20th following a dispute with her mother. Equipped with only Rs. 50, she began a journey that took her across South India.
Tasmeeth initially boarded a train from Trivandrum to Nagercoil. She stopped briefly to get water before continuing her journey to Kanyakumari and eventually arriving in Chennai Egmore. While travelling, an auto-rickshaw driver reported seeing a girl matching Tasmeeth’s description, leading to initial suspicions that she was in danger. However, this turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.
Knowing that Tasmeeth’s brother resided in Chennai, the police believed she might be headed there, despite no communication from her. They reviewed CCTV footage at Chennai Egmore railway station and identified Tasmeeth walking on the platform. Following this lead, the police tracked her movements to Vishakhapatnam.
The police informed both the Kerala police and Tasmeeth’s parents about her safe custody at the railway police office in Vishakhapatnam. A police team is currently en route to bring her back to Chennai and reunite her with her family.
This incident highlights the dangers faced by young people who run away from home. The police’s swift action and use of technology, particularly CCTV footage, were instrumental in locating Tasmeeth and ensuring her safe return.
