Missing Marine Corporal Charles Alex Benfield Found Safe

Marine Corporal Charles Alex Benfield, who was reported missing after failing to report for duty and having his bank account reportedly emptied, has been located and is now safe.

Prior to his disappearance, Benfield was detained in downtown San Diego for public intoxication and was later released on Sunday, April 14 from the McAlister Institute Recovery and Bridge Center. Front desk workers at the center told authorities that Benfield was scared and concerned about losing his rank due to missing a morning meeting. Benfield also mentioned searching for his phone.

The Marine Corps requested assistance from the NCIS due to Benfield’s active duty status.

On Saturday, April 20, NCIS confirmed that Benfield had been contacted by law enforcement and was safe. No further details were provided.

FOX 5/KUSI has reached out to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton for further comment.
