Missouri AG: Kansas City Mayor’s Office ‘Targeted’ Chiefs Kicker Butker for ‘Expressing Christian Beliefs’

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has vehemently criticized the Kansas City mayor’s office for its alleged ‘retaliation’ against Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker after he expressed his Christian beliefs in a commencement speech. Bailey maintains that Butker’s doxxing by the city’s official X account, which revealed his residence, was a clear act of reprisal from the left. This follows Butker’s viral address at Benedictine College earlier this month, where he spoke about the importance of being ‘unapologetically Catholic.’

Bailey, in an interview with Fox News Digital, condemned the city’s actions as ‘discrimination’ against Butker based on his religion. He asserted that Butker is protected by both the First Amendment and the Missouri Human Rights Act. Bailey has vowed to hold Kansas City officials, including Mayor Quinton Lucas, accountable for the social media post.

Bailey emphasized that Butker’s speech was in line with his faith and beliefs as a Catholic. He accused the ‘woke left’ of seeking to silence Christian voices and suppress the expression of Christian ideals in public discourse. Bailey argued that the left’s reaction to Butker’s speech was an example of their intolerance towards Christianity.

Butker’s address drew criticism from certain media outlets and the NFL, which distanced itself from his views. However, various elected officials and conservative groups have defended Butker’s right to express his faith. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Kansas City mayor’s office for comment.
