Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has confirmed that all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will miss the remainder of the IPL 2024 season due to injury.
Marsh, who sustained the injury after playing four matches for DC, was initially expected to return at some point during the campaign. However, Ponting has now suggested that Marsh’s IPL 2024 season is over.
‘I don’t think he’ll be coming back. There’s a certain cut-off point with replacement players,’ Ponting said, as quoted by Cricinfo. ‘Cricket Australia were keen to have him at home to start his recovery process and we sent him back as soon as we could.’
Marsh, who is expected to captain Australia at the upcoming T20 World Cup, is now likely to focus on his recovery ahead of the tournament.
Ponting, however, believes the T20 World Cup shouldn’t be an issue for Marsh, saying, ‘I don’t think the T20 World Cup would be an issue.’
DC have faced several injuries this season, including Lungi Ngidi and Harry Brook. It remains to be seen if they will be able to make another replacement for Marsh.
