Moscow’s iconic Ostankino TV Tower was bathed in the vibrant colors of the Indian and Russian flags on Monday, marking the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a high-profile, two-day visit to the Russian capital. The visit includes summit talks with President Vladimir Putin. The towering structure, rising to an impressive 1,771 feet (540 meters), holds the distinction of being the world’s fourth tallest and Europe’s highest television tower. Constructed in 1967 by the renowned Soviet engineer Nikolai Nikitin, the Ostankino TV Tower stands tall as the highest free-standing building in Russia. It’s a recognized symbol of Russian broadcasting and a prominent landmark in Moscow, attracting visitors from around the globe.
Upon his arrival, Modi was met by Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov at the airport, receiving a ceremonial welcome. Manturov accompanied Modi to his hotel in the same car, according to officials. A warm welcome awaited Modi from the Indian community in Moscow, with the prime minister expressing his gratitude for their affection on X, sharing a series of photographs of the reception.
This visit marks Modi’s first trip to Russia since 2019 and his first since the onset of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022. It is also his first visit to Russia during his third term as Prime Minister of India. The summit talks between Modi and Putin are expected to focus on bilateral relations, regional issues, and international developments.
