Mohamed Salah Hints at Liverpool Exit After Dominant Win Over Manchester United

Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian winger who has become a legend at Liverpool, hinted that the current season could be his last at Anfield. He delivered this statement after scoring his 15th goal against Manchester United, leading Liverpool to a resounding 3-0 victory at Old Trafford. With his contract set to expire next year, Salah made it clear that no discussions about an extension have taken place with the club.

Salah has cemented his place in the history of the English giants, netting 214 goals since joining in 2017. Speaking to Sky Sports, he revealed, “I had a good summer and had a long time to myself to try to stay positive because as you know it’s my last year at the club. I just want to enjoy it and I don’t want to think about it. I feel like I’m free to play football and then we’ll see what happens next year.”

He also added, “To be fair I was coming to the game, it could be the last time (playing at Old Trafford). Nobody in the club has talked to me about contracts. It is not up to me, it is up to the club.”

Salah signed a three-year deal in 2022, making him the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history, earning more than £18 million ($24 million) annually. However, consistent reports have linked him with a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League. Last year, Liverpool reportedly rejected a £150 million bid from Al-Ittihad for his services.

Along with Salah, two other key Liverpool players, captain Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, are also out of contract at the end of the season. Despite this, the team’s performance on the pitch has been outstanding under new manager Arne Slot. The Reds have won their first three Premier League games without conceding a goal, placing them second in the table behind Manchester City, only separated by goal difference.

Salah expressed his satisfaction with the team’s start under Slot, stating, “It’s a great result. Everyone knows it’s very important for the city and for the fans — and for the manager with his first game in here. We’re so happy for the result. If you want to fight for the league this is the sort of game you need to win. I’m glad we managed to win it.”

He also highlighted the manager’s tactical approach, saying, “The manager likes us to press high. We scored from all those situations. There’s not a big difference from Jurgen at the start and in time we’ve changed the system a little with the way we play. We’re adapting.”

With Salah’s future uncertain, his statement about this potentially being his final season at Anfield has undoubtedly sparked speculation and intrigue among fans and pundits alike. The upcoming months will be crucial in determining whether the Egyptian superstar will remain a Red or embark on a new chapter in his illustrious career.
