UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention Announces Regulations and Procedures for Abortions
The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) has announced new regulations and procedures for abortions in the country. The guidelines aim to ensure the safety of women’s health and will be implemented by health authorities to further facilitate safety measures.
Key Highlights of the New Guidelines
– All abortion requests must be approved by a committee consisting of an obstetrician-gynecologist, a psychiatrist, and a public prosecutor.
– The procedure must be performed in a licensed healthcare facility by a licensed specialist obstetrician-gynecologist.
– Abortions are only permissible within 120 days of pregnancy.
– Abortions are also allowed if there are complications to the pregnant woman’s life and there are no other alternatives to save her.
– Abortions are permitted in cases where the fetus might showcase any prominent abnormalities and deformation that will affect the newborn’s health and life.
Responsibilities of Healthcare Facilities
Healthcare facilities in the country are required to detail the healthcare requirements before the procedure and also after care along with the rights and responsibilities of the pregnant woman, including her right to privacy and confidentiality.
