Mohun Bagan Super Giant captain Subhasish Bose has declared that he and his team are ready to move on from their recent loss to Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League (ISL). While acknowledging the setback, Bose emphasizes that the Mariners have learned valuable lessons from the experience. “In a domestic season, there are not a lot of gaps between matches. In football, ups and downs happen, but there is no point in sitting and thinking too much about the loss. We are now focused only on this game,” Subhasish told Sportstar in an exclusive interview.
The Mariners suffered a surprising 0-3 defeat to Bengaluru on September 28, their heaviest loss since December 2023 (1-4 to FC Goa). This was also their biggest away loss since their 0-3 defeat to Jamshedpur FC in the 2023 Super Cup. However, Bose sees the loss as an opportunity for growth. “We have tried rectifying our mistakes from that match through video sessions and analysis. I hope we can perform better as a team this time,” he said.
Bose underscores the importance of their upcoming match against Mohammedan Sporting on Saturday, highlighting the potential for a morale boost and a positive impact on the team’s ISL campaign. “Every match is important to us, and this one is especially significant because three points from here will give us a morale boost, make the dressing room environment better, and help us in the ISL race.”
Having previously played for Mohun Bagan in the 2016-17 season and returning after a stint with Bengaluru FC, Bose has a deep understanding of the club’s DNA. He recognizes the high expectations associated with Mohun Bagan and their tradition of winning trophies. “There is no margin for error in Mohun Bagan without a trophy. So, the aim will be winning one this season. We, in recent years, have maintained the reputation of being consistent trophy winners, and we will look to uphold that this time as well, with silverware,” he stated.
This Saturday’s match marks the first time these two teams have met in the Indian top flight in over a decade. Their last encounter, a goalless draw on March 8, 2014, took place before Bose’s time as a senior professional. He is now a key player and is determined to lead the Mariners to success. “I think the match will be entertaining, with this being the first time Mohammedan Sporting playing us in the ISL. But our focus will be on securing full points,” concluded Subhasish.
