Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s Durand Cup Quarterfinal Moved to Jamshedpur Amidst Kolkata Security Concerns

The defending champions of the Durand Cup, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, will be traveling to Jamshedpur to play their quarterfinal match on August 23rd. This shift in venue comes after their final group stage match against East Bengal was abandoned due to security concerns in Kolkata.

The city of Kolkata has been experiencing widespread protests following the tragic rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College. The city police have cited providing adequate security as a major challenge during this sensitive time.

The official media release from the Durand Cup tournament committee stated that the final Group A fixture between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Emami East Bengal FC, originally scheduled for August 18th in Kolkata, has been abandoned.

While Jamshedpur is currently being considered as an alternative venue, logistical issues may arise. The tournament committee is exploring all options and aims to find the best solution for hosting the remaining matches.
