Momentum Technologies, a frontrunner in the field of processing and recovering high-purity critical metals and minerals, has officially unveiled its new headquarters in Carrollton, Texas. This cutting-edge facility boasts a state-of-the-art demonstration unit and research and development (R&D) laboratory, signifying a pivotal step forward in the company’s mission to revolutionize critical metal recovery.
The grand opening on Tuesday was met with great enthusiasm, attracting industry professionals, community leaders, and local partners. The event provided an opportunity to showcase Momentum’s proprietary Membrane Solvent Extraction (MSX) technology, a groundbreaking innovation that is transforming the landscape of critical metal recovery. MSX technology presents a sustainable and cost-effective solution for processing valuable materials, positioning Momentum at the forefront of both the clean energy and battery recycling industries.
Mahesh Konduru, CEO of Momentum, expressed the significance of this milestone, stating, “Our new headquarters demonstrates Momentum’s commitment to advancing critical metals recovery in a way that is both economically sustainable and environmentally responsible. This is a testament to the dedication of our team, whose efforts made this possible. We are focused on expanding our capabilities and delivering innovative, scalable solutions that address the increasing demand for clean energy technologies.”
Momentum’s journey has been one of consistent progress and innovation. What began as a small garage operation has evolved into this state-of-the-art facility, where the company continues to push the boundaries of membrane extraction for the recovery of critical minerals from waste. The company has demonstrated the simplicity and efficacy of its MSX technology across multiple scales, starting with lab-scale trials in 2021, transitioning to a pilot scale in 2022, and now operating a demonstration unit capable of processing 200 tons per year (TPY) with 98-99% purity—a remarkable 20x scale-up from the pilot phase.
Preston Bryant and Robert Miles, Co-Founders of Momentum, highlighted the critical need for efficient recycling solutions, stating, “With rising demand for electric vehicles and battery storage, the need for efficient recycling solutions has never been greater. Our modular approach enables us to refine materials close to waste producers, significantly reducing transportation costs and associated emissions. This facility represents the next step in scaling our technology to meet market needs while minimizing environmental impact.”
Momentum’s commitment to innovation and sustainability extends beyond its current operations. The company is set to open a new commercial-scale facility in Ohio next year, further demonstrating the scalability of its MSX technology and enabling the processing of larger volumes of critical metals. Konduru emphasized, “As we continue to expand, our upcoming Ohio facility will allow us to take this innovation to the next level, supporting larger-scale operations while staying true to our commitment to efficiency and environmental stewardship.”
Momentum Technologies, headquartered in Dallas, is a lithium-ion battery recycling company that has developed a patented modular, scalable battery recycling technology in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Energy, Oak Ridge National Lab, and Halliburton Labs. The Company’s Membrane Solvent Extraction technology offers a significant advantage over existing recycling technologies by enabling the extraction of high-purity metals from battery waste at significantly lower operating and capital costs.
