IMD Reports Further Advancement of Southwest Monsoon
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that the Southwest Monsoon has made further progress, reaching the remaining parts of the central Arabian Sea, certain areas of the northern Arabian Sea, and additional parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, on June 9th.
Weather Alerts Issued for Mumbai and Surrounding Areas
The Mumbai Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and the Palghar district, while orange alerts have been issued for Raigad, Thane, Pune, and Ratnagiri. Sindhudurg and Kolhapur have been placed under red alert, with extremely heavy rainfall expected in isolated areas of the ghat regions.
Heavy Rainfall Spreads Across South India
Several parts of Bengaluru experienced waterlogging due to rainfall on Sunday. The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy downpours, over south Konkan, Goa, south Madhya Maharashtra, and Coastal and North Interior Karnataka on June 9th and 10th.
Rain Accompanied by Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds
Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, and the Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during the next 7 days, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Similar conditions, with slightly stronger winds, are anticipated over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Karnataka, and Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep.
Isolated Heat Wave Conditions
Heat wave conditions are likely in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand & Gangetic West Bengal during June 9th and 13th. Uttar Pradesh may also experience heat wave conditions in isolated areas on June 9th and 10th.
