Monsoon Rains Bring Heavy Downpours and Waterlogging Across India

As the monsoon season continues to grip India, heavy downpours have lashed several parts of the country, causing widespread waterlogging and disrupting daily life. Major cities in both Northern and Southern India have been particularly affected, with Hyderabad, Delhi, Noida, and Srinagar experiencing significant flooding.

In Telangana, the impact of the monsoon rains has been severe. A public transport bus was stranded in floodwaters under a Road Under Bridge (RUB) in Nizamabad, forcing authorities and local residents to rescue passengers. The heavy rains across the state, including in Hyderabad, have led to waterlogging and traffic congestion, making it difficult for people to move around. Tragically, lightning strikes in Jogulamba Gadwal district claimed the lives of a 40-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl, both of whom were struck while working in agricultural fields during the downpour.

The national capital, Delhi, has also been hit hard by the monsoon rains. In the early hours of Tuesday, heavy rainfall caused severe waterlogging in parts of the city, leading to traffic congestion and making commuting a challenge. The situation was particularly severe near Ashram Bridge, where parked vehicles were submerged in floodwaters. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and other states, predicting more intense rainfall in the coming days.

In Uttar Pradesh, parts of Noida have also been affected by heavy rainfall. The IMD has forecast widespread light to moderate rainfall for Delhi and the surrounding areas, with moderate to intense rainfall expected in Central and East Delhi during the morning hours.

Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar experienced heavy rainfall on Tuesday morning. Earlier in the day, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 struck Baramulla in the region, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Delhi predicts that the maximum temperature in the city will settle around 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will hover around 27 degrees Celsius. The weather department expects light rain and a generally cloudy sky in Delhi for the next five days.
