Monsoon Rains Lash Parts of India, Delhi to See Pleasant Weather

The advancing southwest monsoon is expected to bring rainfall to several parts of India on Monday, 24 June. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka, west Madhya Pradesh, Bengal, and Sikkim are all likely to experience rainfall. Meanwhile, heatwave-like conditions will continue in Punjab, Haryana, and west Uttar Pradesh.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for some areas of Kerala and Karnataka due to anticipated heavy downpours. The national capital, Delhi, is likely to enjoy pleasant weather with light rainfall and cloudy skies.

Following a spell of light rainfall on Sunday, Delhi is expected to see cloudy skies with very light rainfall and gusty winds on Monday. The city’s temperature is likely to range between 38.6 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre, New Delhi.

On Sunday, the IMD issued a red alert for Kerala, coastal and interior Karnataka, anticipating heavy rainfall. South Interior Karnataka is predicted to experience isolated heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) to extremely heavy falls (>204.4 mm).

The weather forecasting agency also issued an orange alert on Sunday for Goa, Bihar, central Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, due to anticipated heavy rainfall. This weather pattern is likely to persist on Monday.

The southwest monsoon is actively progressing across India, bringing heavy rainfall to many parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. Conditions are favorable for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon into additional parts of the North Arabian Sea and Gujarat State; some more parts of Madhya Pradesh; remaining parts of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar; some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand over the next 3-4 days.

The IMD’s latest weather bulletin predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat Region, Kerala & Mahe, and Karnataka. Heavy rainfall is also anticipated at isolated locations over West Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya.
