Montreal’s Olympic Stadium Receives $40 Million for Repairs and Decontamination After Fire

The government of Quebec has granted up to $40 million to the organization responsible for managing Montreal’s Olympic Stadium. This funding will cover the costs of repairs and decontamination following a fire that occurred on March 21. Extensive decontamination is required in the stadium’s tower due to the pervasive spread of smoke throughout the building. Approximately nine kilometers of ventilation ducts, along with offices situated within the tower, need to be thoroughly cleaned. The stadium’s tower and an attached sports complex have remained closed since the fire but are expected to reopen in late summer or early fall. The investigation into the fire, which originated at the base of the stadium’s tower, is still underway by Montreal police. In February, the Quebec government committed approximately $870 million towards replacing the stadium’s roof.
