The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the appointment of former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel as the bowling coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed the news, stating that Morkel’s tenure will begin on September 1.
This appointment comes after the departure of Paras Mhambrey, who is expected to transition to a new role at the National Cricket Academy. Morkel brings a wealth of experience to the position, having represented South Africa in 86 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 44 T20Is, claiming a total of 544 international wickets.
The 39-year-old has previously worked with India’s current chief coach Gautam Gambhir at the Lucknow Super Giants, providing him with valuable insight into the Indian cricketing landscape. His expertise and experience in fast bowling are expected to be crucial in shaping the Indian team’s bowling attack.
The addition of Morkel as bowling coach is seen as a strategic move by the BCCI to further strengthen the Indian team’s coaching staff and enhance their performance on the international stage.
