With 8.4 million people experiencing food poverty in the UK, many families are struggling to put a hot meal on the table. To help those in need, Morrisons has partnered with Heinz to offer customers a free hot meal from their supermarket cafes. For the first two weeks in July, shoppers can visit their local Morrisons Café and claim a jacket potato topped with Heinz Cheesy Beanz without paying a penny. There are no questions asked; all you need to do is say the codeword ‘Henry’ to staff. This codeword is a tribute to Henry Heinz, the founder of the company. You can simply say ‘Henry’, or you can use it in a phrase like ‘Is Henry here?’ or ‘Can I ask for Henry?’ The jacket potato meals would normally cost £4.25, but they are free as part of the scheme until July 14. Customers can claim the offer once per day, seven days a week. This initiative aims to provide some financial relief to families facing food insecurity. Running alongside this offer, Morrisons will continue to offer their Kids Eat Free plan, providing a free kids meal with any adult main meal that costs over £5. Additionally, if you purchase a hot drink in the Morrisons cafe, you can also get a free jam doughnut. This is part of the supermarket’s 125th birthday celebrations, offering a free doughnut with any hot drink until July 14. This is not the first time the ‘Ask for Henry’ initiative has been implemented at Morrisons. The supermarket has collaborated with Heinz on similar campaigns in 2022 and 2023, feeding tens of thousands of people. They are hoping to help even more this year. Chris Strong, Morrisons Café Senior Buying Manager, said, ‘Customers continue to tell us how grateful they were for our previous ‘Ask for Henry’ initiatives, and so we’re really pleased to be bringing it back. We know that the busy summer months can add to customers’ financial pressures, especially with extra mouths to feed, so we’re pleased to be partnering with Heinz and offering this delicious meal.’ This initiative comes after Morrisons recently introduced significant changes in their stores to assist those who struggle with music and other loud noises, such as individuals diagnosed with autism. The retailer previously offered quiet hours between 9am and 10am on Saturdays and for the first hour of opening on Sundays. They have now extended these quiet hours to include 2pm to 3pm every Monday to Thursday. During quiet hours, lights are dimmed, music and radio are turned off, tannoy announcements are silenced, checkout beeps and other electrical noises are reduced, and customers are encouraged to minimize the movement of trolleys and baskets. Customers can easily identify quiet hours by looking for a poster outside the supermarket.
