A British car aficionado who purchased a mouldy Peugeot 207CC for £500 encountered an unexpected discovery concealed within its boot. Motoring expert and YouTuber Matt, known for his informative videos showcasing discarded vehicles, acquired the car with the intention of demonstrating its condition to his viewers. Despite its high mileage and expired MOT, Matt acknowledged the potential profitability of investing in its restoration and resale, as the average market value of comparable models stood around £2,500. Upon initial inspection, the Peugeot’s exterior and chassis appeared relatively undamaged, but the interior was heavily affected by mould. Matt expressed his dismay at the extent of the infestation, exclaiming, “Oof, I just got a whiff of mould inside, lovely.” However, as he delved further into the vehicle’s cluttered interior, he stumbled upon a makeshift wooden phone holder, peculiar wires, and unidentified objects that baffled both himself and his audience. Among the miscellaneous items was a handbrake and gearstick lock, a security measure often employed to deter vehicle theft. Matt humorously remarked that such a device seemed superfluous for a car of this type, considering its low desirability as a target for theft. In an attempt to revive the car, Matt jumpstarted its engine and proceeded to search the boot for any additional noteworthy items. It was here that he stumbled upon a perplexing assortment of objects that raised his suspicions. Along with a soiled blanket, he discovered a dehumidifier and other strange items that, according to Matt, resembled the remnants of a “crime scene.” “Looks a bit suspicious,” he commented, adding, “This may or may not have been owned by somebody that was into kidnappings.” Fortuitously for Matt, the Peugeot’s convertible design allowed him to easily discard the mouldy roof. Upon driving the car, it became evident that it would not pass an MOT inspection due to its dangerously compromised exhaust system and suspension springs. Consequently, Matt decided to scrap the Peugeot, ultimately incurring a financial loss of £290 after selling it for £210. This incident serves as a cautionary tale for car enthusiasts considering the purchase of neglected or abandoned vehicles, highlighting the potential risks and unexpected discoveries that may await them.
