A Sylmar neighborhood is on edge after a large mountain lion attacked and killed a dog. The incident occurred in the Oakridge Mobile Home Park, where resident Rey Constante witnessed the horrifying scene and captured graphic photos. According to Constante, the dog, a pit bull named Gigi, was being walked by her owners when they encountered the mountain lion. A struggle ensued, with the owners attempting to fight back, but the mountain lion ultimately overpowered the dog.
Constante expressed sadness and helplessness, saying, “It was a cute, beautiful, friendly pit bull – harmless. So, I was saddened to see the dog just dying in front of me and nothing I could do to save the dog.”
The mountain lion, startled by an approaching car, fled into the nearby hills. However, residents remain concerned that the animal may return and are taking precautions. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of living near wildlife and highlights the importance of taking measures to ensure safety in such environments.
