Discolored grout can be a real eyesore in any bathroom. Exposure to hard water containing minerals like calcium, magnesium, and iron can turn grout orange or yellow. Using too much soap and failing to wash it off your tiles can also lead to discoloration. And if you’ve got black stains on your grout, that’s likely caused by mould and mildew, which thrives in moisture and humidity.
One Facebook user, Charlotte Louise, was struggling to remove stains from her shower grout despite using various cleaning products. She turned to the ‘Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips’ group for help, and the most common suggestion was to use Astonish Mould and Mildew Blaster. Kelly Bett recommended spraying the product on the grout, leaving it for 30 minutes, and then scrubbing with a grout brush. Gail Dell suggested leaving the spray on overnight, then spraying it off and cleaning with a microfiber cloth. Kathleennancy Gallagher also recommended using mould and mildew remover, stating that it worked for her.
Astonish Mould and Mildew Blaster can be found online or at most local supermarkets like Morrisons, The Range, and Iceland for around £1.50. The product claims to remove tough stains without scrubbing and help prevent future growth.
Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans for cleaning tile grout included using a steam cleaner, neat bleach, and Kilrock Grout Cleaner. Sandy Gilbert recommended using a steam cleaner, while Dee Fletcher suggested applying neat bleach directly to the grout and wiping it off after some time. Tracy Hodgkinson praised Kilrock grout cleaner, stating that it is available at Home Bargains.
