The Chennai crowd is known for its enthusiastic reactions during the Indian Premier League (IPL), especially when MS Dhoni is involved. A unique IPL stat introduced by broadcaster Star Sports in IPL 2024 measured the decibel level of spectators at the venue and found that it was highest when Dhoni walked onto the ground before the toss in Chennai. During the match between CSK and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the cameraman zoomed in on Dhoni while Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube were batting. Dhoni, miffed by the attention, threatened the cameraman with a water bottle. Gaikwad became the first CSK captain to score an IPL century with an unbeaten 108 off 60 balls, while Dube scored a quickfire 66 off 22 balls. The pair stitched a 104-run partnership to power CSK to 210 for four. Dhoni obliged the roaring CSK fans by coming out to bat with two balls to spare. Gaikwad put him on strike for the final ball, and Dhoni guided it for a four through deep mid-wicket.
