Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are witnessing MS Dhoni’s exceptional finishing skills once again. Despite handing over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dhoni has been unstoppable with the bat, scoring runs at an impressive pace in the death overs.
C SK’s batting coach Michael Hussey has shed light on Dhoni’s preparation for the ongoing IPL season and his mindset behind his remarkable form. Dhoni has amassed 87 runs from 5 innings thus far, remaining unbeaten and striking at a phenomenal 255.88.
‘He’s in a wonderful place in his career,’ said Hussey ahead of CSK’s home game against Lucknow Super Giants. ‘He’s comfortable, happy, and enjoying his cricket. He’s practiced meticulously and prepared well for the tournament.’
Despite being 42 years old, Dhoni has reinvented himself as a batter. Hussey believes that the veteran cricketer will ‘continue to evolve’ even at this stage of his career.
‘Bowlers need to devise new strategies against him,’ added Hussey. ‘That’s one of the remarkable things about MS. He’ll continue to improve and make it harder for bowlers to dismiss him.’
Hussey also expressed optimism about CSK’s chances in the remaining matches, particularly with three consecutive home games. ‘It’s important to perform well in these home games,’ said Hussey. ‘Wins are crucial at this stage of the tournament. We’ve started well and have a strong home record. If we play well in the next three matches, we’ll have a good chance of a playoff spot.’
Dhoni’s resurgence and CSK’s improved form have boosted the team’s hopes for a successful IPL 2024 campaign.
