A wave of bomb threats swept through Delhi on Tuesday, targeting prominent shopping malls, hospitals, and a school. Emails claiming explosive devices were planted within these locations were sent to establishments including Chanakya Mall, Select City Walk, Ambience Mall, DLF, Cine Polis, Pacific Mall, Primus Hospital, Unity group, and an unnamed school in Greater Kailash.
The threat emails, which all bore a similar pattern, stated that explosives would detonate within a few hours. Responding swiftly, mall authorities and hospital administrators immediately contacted the Delhi Police, triggering a coordinated response. Bomb disposal squads and fire tenders were deployed to the locations, meticulously searching for any suspicious devices. While no bombs were found, the police investigation is ongoing.
A senior police official stated that the initial investigation suggests a common origin for the threatening emails, though no specific deadlines were mentioned in the threats. The investigation is focused on tracing the origin of these emails and identifying the responsible individuals.
The severity of these threats was amplified by the explicit nature of some messages. One email sent to several hospitals contained a chilling message: “You all will end up in a pool of blood..none of you deserve to keep living..”
While the situation in Delhi unfolded, a similar bomb threat was reported at Ambience Mall in Gurugram on August 17. Though no suspicious elements were found during a comprehensive search by Gurugram Police, the incident underscores the growing concern surrounding these threats.
In response to the threats, the Gurugram Police issued a warning, stating that anyone found spreading false or misleading information regarding bomb threats, either through social media posts or emails, will face legal repercussions.
The Delhi Police and Gurugram Police are actively investigating these threats, working to determine the source and motives behind these unsettling incidents. The widespread nature of the threats highlights the need for heightened security measures and vigilance in public spaces. Authorities urge the public to remain calm and report any suspicious activity immediately.
