A flurry of encounters between security forces and terrorists took place across different parts of Jammu and Kashmir in the days leading up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election rally in Doda on Saturday. The incidents, which included the killing of multiple terrorists, underscore the ongoing security challenges in the region.
Khandara Kathua Encounter:
The first encounter occurred on Friday, September 13, in Khandara Kathua, where troops from the Rising Star Corps engaged in a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The operation, which began on September 11, resulted in the elimination of two terrorists and the recovery of a significant amount of weapons and ammunition.
Kishtwar Encounter:
On the same day, another encounter erupted in the Kishtwar district. Security forces clashed with terrorists in the Pingnal Dugadda forest area, leading to the tragic loss of two Army soldiers. Two other soldiers sustained injuries during the encounter and are currently undergoing treatment.
Baramulla Encounter:
A third encounter occurred in the Chak Tapper Kreeri Pattan area of Baramulla. The encounter, which began late Friday, continued into Saturday morning, culminating in the death of three terrorists. The identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorists are currently being investigated.
Surankote Hideout:
In a separate operation, security forces conducted a joint raid on a terrorist hideout in the Surankote town of Poonch district. The operation, which took place on September 12, resulted in the discovery and destruction of a significant terrorist hideout.
Intensified Security Operations:
In response to the recent encounters, security forces stepped up their anti-terror operations in the districts of Kishtwar, Udhampur, Poonch, and Rajouri. These operations involved the deployment of drones, specialized equipment, and extensive cordoning of large areas. The aim was to locate and apprehend terrorists who had fled the scene of the encounters.
