A mother has revealed that she has two sets of twins, despite none of them being born on the same day. Selina Bayes shared an insight into her family situation via a video posted to her TikTok channel. The 26-year-old revealed that six years ago, she gave birth to two daughters, who were born 13 and a half months apart. Generally, babies that are born less than a year apart are called Irish twins, however, some people call children born up to 18 months apart Irish twins. This means that Selina’s daughters are technically twins, despite being born on different days. Selina revealed that she really struggled with the stress of raising two babies at the same time, but got through it and managed to get her daughters through school and nursery. However, a few years later she decided to have two more children, who were born 362 days apart. This means that her youngest are also Irish twins, so she has two pairs of twins, but none that are born on the same day. Selina explained that life with her children is “chaos” and questioning her decision to have another set of Irish twins, looked at her two youngest and said: “what the f***”. However, Selina and her family seem very happy together, and she often shares videos of her laughing and joking with her four children. The term Irish twins was initially used as a derogatory term aimed at Irish-Catholics who emigrated to America. As Catholics do not believe in contraception, Irish families were often large, with children born close together in age. Selina’s video, which was posted under the username @s31nla has gone viral, racking up over 530,000 likes on the video sharing platform. TikTok users raced to the comments section to share their thoughts, with many baffled at how Selina has managed to cope. One person said: “How are you alive at this point?” Another person added: “There was a year between my two, those teething and nappy days were a killer…unforgettable”. A third added: “I have Irish twin boys and two older kids. “I didn’t realize how hard it would be”. A fourth said: “I had 3 boys within 3 years. “I am clearly a sucker for hard work.”
