Mumbai and its surrounding regions are facing the aftermath of heavy rains that lashed the financial capital over the weekend. The Regional Meteorological Department (RMC) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and Palghar, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places. Meanwhile, a red alert for heavy showers is in place for four districts of Maharashtra, including Satara, Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, and Ratnagiri. Thane, Raigad, and Pune are under an orange alert. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a high tide warning for 3.52 meters at 5:14 pm today, adding to the concerns of potential flooding in the coastal city.
The heavy rains on Saturday led to severe waterlogging in various parts of Mumbai, forcing authorities to shut down the Andheri Subway for some time. The vicinity of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport was also inundated. Looking ahead, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for July 15 in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, and Parbhani. Most parts of the Vidarbha region are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall amid the orange alert. According to the IMD, Mumbai’s maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to settle around 28 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively, on Sunday. The IMD’s forecast for Mumbai on Sunday is a generally cloudy sky with heavy rain and 94 percent humidity.
