Mumbai Metro 3’s Aqua Line Set to Open in October 2024

Mumbai is one step closer to experiencing a smoother commute as the first phase of the highly anticipated Mumbai Metro 3 line, also known as the Aqua Line, is set to be operational in October 2024. This exciting announcement was made by Ashwini Bhide, the managing director of the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), during a press conference on September 24th.

The 12.5 km long inaugural stretch of the Aqua Line will connect Aarey Colony to Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). While construction work is almost complete, the line awaits the final safety clearance before commencing operations. This phase forms a part of the larger 33.5 km Colaba-Seepz-Aarey Metro Line 3 route, which is expected to be fully operational by March or May 2025.

MMRC is currently awaiting approval for the rail line application. Approval for the rolling stock (metro trains) has already been received. With 93% of the corridor work completed, the project is on track for a timely completion.

Official sources have indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the Aarey-BKC route in the first week of October, alongside other significant infrastructure projects in the state. This event promises to be a major milestone in Mumbai’s transportation development journey.
