After much anticipation, Mumbai’s Metro Line 3 Phase 1, affectionately dubbed the ‘Aqua Line,’ has finally opened its doors to the public today, October 7th. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the route last week, marking a significant milestone in the city’s public transport infrastructure.
This first phase covers a 12.5 kilometer stretch, running between the bustling Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Aarey JVLR. The ₹ 14,120 crore project promises to transform commutes for Mumbaikars, bridging the gap between the city’s urban core and suburban areas.
One of the key highlights of this new line is its direct connection to Mumbai Airport. The route links Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, making airport access significantly more convenient. Moreover, it seamlessly integrates with the existing Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova Metro Line 1 at Marol Naka station, offering a seamless multi-modal travel experience.
With the launch of Phase 1, Mumbaikars can now enjoy a faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation, reducing reliance on road travel and alleviating traffic congestion. The ‘Aqua Line’ is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Mumbai’s transportation system, paving the way for a more connected and sustainable city.
