The Regional Meteorological Center of Mumbai issued a yellow alert on June 19, warning of moderate to heavy rain in the city and suburbs over the next 24 hours. The forecast predicts cloudy skies with a possibility of heavy rainfall. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 30°C and 25°C respectively.
In the past 24 hours, Mumbai has already experienced moderate rainfall in several areas. Significant downpours were recorded in Goregaon, Goregaon East, South and Central Mumbai, Vashi and Thane. @IndiaWeatherMan reported heavy rains at Goregaon East.
While the city has seen scattered rainfall in recent days, the real monsoon downpour, with an expected rainfall of 250-300mm, is predicted to begin in the last week of June. Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted below-normal rainfall for June, stating that India received 20 per cent less than the long period average (LPA) of rainfall during the first 18 days of the month.
The IMD has also indicated that conditions are favorable for the monsoon’s further advancement into parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, northwest Bay of Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand over the next three to four days.
