Murray Hints at Strong Preference for Cardinals to Keep Draft Pick for Playmaker

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has made it known that he wants the team to keep the fourth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and use it to acquire a playmaker. While Murray has not mentioned any specific prospects by name, he has hinted at his wishes and stated that he knows who he wants. Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon and general manager Monti Ossenfort have publicly supported Murray, but they were not employed by the team when his contract extension was signed in 2022.

With the loss of Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown and Rondale Moore, speculation has arisen regarding the possibility of Arizona trading back in the draft. However, Ossenfort has received multiple trade-back offers and is expected to hold onto the pick until the Cardinals are on the clock. The New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings have been mentioned as potential trade partners, as they are interested in acquiring Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

Murray has acknowledged that he has previously advocated for specific players in the draft, but those efforts were unsuccessful. He understands that things happen and has expressed confidence in Ossenfort and Gannon’s decision-making abilities. As of Wednesday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook listed Marvin Harrison Jr. as the betting favorite at -225 odds to be the draft’s fourth choice, followed by McCarthy at +180. It is unlikely that Arizona would consider selecting a quarterback at No. 4.

Murray emphasized that he trusts Ossenfort and Gannon to make the best decision for the team. He believes they are on the same page and respects their judgment. The Cardinals’ next move in the draft remains to be seen, but Murray’s comments have certainly added fuel to the speculation surrounding the team’s plans for the fourth overall pick.
