Murray’s Wimbledon Return Uncertain After Back Surgery

Two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray has provided an update on his recovery following back surgery, hinting at a potential return to the singles tournament. The 37-year-old underwent surgery last weekend to remove a cyst in his back that had been compressing his nerves, causing him to lose control and power in his right leg.

Murray, who ended a 77-year wait for a British male singles champion at Wimbledon in 2013 and won the title again in 2016, has indicated that he might retire after the summer, potentially bowing out at the Olympics in Paris. However, he remains determined to play at Wimbledon one last time before calling it quits.

On Sunday, Murray stated that he would be conducting physical testing in the morning to assess his recovery progress. He plans to make a final decision regarding his Wimbledon participation on Monday evening after evaluating the results. Despite showing improvement, he admitted that he still lacks full sensation in his leg.

“I’m doing some physical testing in the morning to see sort of how far off I am from a physical perspective. Then I will probably make a decision tomorrow evening after that,” Murray told reporters on Sunday. “I still have stitches in my back now. Yeah, the actual area where I had the operation is not sore. It’s the leg and the function of my leg that will determine whether or not I’m able to play,” he added.

Murray expressed his desire to play one more time at Wimbledon, ideally on Centre Court, to experience the thrill of the crowd once again. “I just want the opportunity to play one more time out there hopefully on Centre Court, and I don’t know, feel that buzz,” he said.
