Mike Freeman, the owner of Castle Gwynn, has announced that the castle will soon be open to the public as a wedding and honeymoon destination. The castle gained fame after Taylor Swift filmed her music video for the song ‘Love Story’ there.
Freeman first envisioned building a castle in 1970 and acquired the land for it ten years later. He and his wife, Jackie, had their first date and honeymoon at the castle site. Over the past four decades, they have continuously made improvements to the castle, which features multiple towers with winding staircases leading to various rooms.
The north tower, where Freeman and his wife reside, boasts a foyer and kitchen adorned with over 14,000 bricks forming 60 arches. Freeman highlighted his wife’s remarkable patience for enduring the ongoing construction project.
He fondly recalls the exact spots where Swift stood during the filming of ‘Love Story,’ a song inspired by the unconditional love between Romeo and Juliet. Swiftie Nick Williams expressed his excitement about the possibility of tying the knot at the castle, especially for fans who got engaged during Swift’s ‘Love Story’ performance on her Eras Tour.
The castle’s wedding venue is still under construction but will feature a medieval ballroom and dining hall once completed. Freeman has received numerous inquiries from couples eager to get married at the castle. He envisions the castle as a dream wedding venue and honeymoon destination.
While there is no official opening date yet, Freeman hopes to have the project completed by the end of the year. In the meantime, visitors can experience the castle during the annual Tennessee Renaissance Festival from May 4-27.
