Mysuru district authorities are pulling out all the stops to maximize voter turnout for the upcoming second phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 26. To tackle concerns stemming from a dip in voter turnout during the first phase, officials have devised a plan to limit access to prominent tourist destinations such as Mysuru Zoo and Mysuru Palace.
This strategic move aims to minimize non-essential visits and motivate residents to prioritize their civic duty. The authorities are determined to ensure that every eligible voter exercises their right to vote and contribute to the electoral process.
Deputy commissioner KV Rajendra, also serving as the district election officer, emphasized the additional efforts being made to encourage participation. Special events are being organized through the SVEEP committee to engage voters and inspire them to cast their ballots. Officials are also personally reaching out to areas with historically lower voter turnout to address any barriers or concerns.
The authorities are optimistic that despite the long weekend and summer vacation, the city’s residents will prioritize their civic duty. They acknowledge that tourism plays a crucial role in the district’s economy, but they believe that temporary restrictions on tourist spots are necessary to achieve their goal of 75% voter turnout. They are confident that the public will understand and cooperate with this measure, recognizing the importance of their participation in shaping the nation’s future.
