Pakistan’s Women’s T20 World Cup campaign received a boost with the inclusion of Najiha Alvi, who has been selected to replace injured all-rounder Diana Baig. The Event Technical Committee of the tournament approved Alvi’s inclusion on Saturday, paving the way for her to join the squad ahead of their crucial final group stage clash against New Zealand on Monday.
Baig sustained a right calf injury during the match against Sri Lanka in Sharjah on October 3, ruling her out of the remainder of the tournament. Alvi, a 21-year-old batter, has represented Pakistan in 12 ODIs and eight T20Is.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s captain Fatima Sana, who missed the previous match due to her father’s passing, is set to return to lead the team for the final fixture of the group stage. Pakistan’s chances of advancing to the semifinals depend heavily on their performance against New Zealand. They need to secure a significant victory to improve their chances of progressing to the knockout stages.
The complete Pakistan squad for the remaining matches is as follows: Fatima Sana (c), Aliya Riaz, Gull Feroza, Iram Javed, Muneeba Ali, Nashra Sundhu, Nida Dar, Omaima Sohail, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal, Sidra Amin, Syeda Aroob Shah, Tasmia Rubab, Tuba Hassan, Najiha Alvi.
