National Museums of Kenya Partners with CityBlue Hotels to Boost Tourism and Culture

The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) and CityBlue Hotels have announced an exciting new partnership aimed at jointly promoting tourism and culture in Kenya. This collaboration marks a significant step towards fostering a deeper appreciation for Kenya’s rich heritage. The partnership will encompass various initiatives, including sponsorship, co-branding, co-marketing, and other mutually beneficial endeavors.

Established by the Museums and Heritage Act of 2006, NMK is a comprehensive institution dedicated to preserving, studying, documenting, and showcasing Kenya’s diverse cultural and natural heritage. This includes historical and contemporary aspects, encompassing a wide range of artifacts and natural wonders. Through this partnership, NMK aims to further enhance the knowledge, appreciation, and sustainable use of these invaluable resources for the benefit of both Kenya and the global community.

CityBlue Hotels, recognized as Africa’s fastest-growing local hotel chain, operates across various countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Ghana. The company also maintains collaborative arrangements with over twenty hotels in South Africa and Mozambique. This widespread presence ensures a significant reach for the partnership, enabling wider exposure to the treasures of Kenya’s heritage.

Professor Mary Gikungu, Director General of the NMK, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating that it provides a platform for NMK to engage with the private sector. She emphasized the importance of partnering with a growing and dynamic organization that shares NMK’s commitment to the welfare of humanity and the conservation of biodiversity.

Jameel Verjee, Founder & CEO of CityBlue Hotels, expressed similar sentiments at the Africa Hotel Investment Forum 2024. He highlighted the significance of NMK’s role in managing national and international heritage sites and collections. Verjee emphasized the institution’s crucial responsibility to respond to societal needs and contribute to national development. He expressed excitement about joining NMK on this journey of promoting Kenya’s cultural and natural heritage.

This partnership between NMK and CityBlue Hotels is expected to have a significant positive impact on tourism in Kenya. By promoting both cultural and natural attractions, the collaboration aims to attract a wider range of visitors, contribute to the economic well-being of local communities, and foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for Kenya’s unique identity.
