National Technology Day, celebrated annually on May 11th, serves as a testament to India’s unwavering commitment to scientific inquiry, technological creativity, and innovation. The first-ever celebration took place in 1999, marking the nation’s strides in developing nuclear capabilities through the successful testing of nuclear missiles at Pokhran in 1998. Since then, the event has become a platform to highlight India’s quest for scientific advancement and technological prowess.
As part of the National Technology Day festivities, the central government bestows the prestigious Rashtriya Vigyan Purashkar (National Science Awards) upon individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to science and technology. Numerous seminars, conferences, and exhibitions are also organized throughout the country to foster collaboration, exchange ideas, and showcase the latest technological innovations.
This year’s theme, “School to Startups-Igniting Young Minds to Innovate,” underscores the crucial role of education in nurturing future innovators and entrepreneurs. The government aims to inspire young minds to pursue careers in science and technology, as well as to encourage them to embark on entrepreneurial ventures that will drive India’s technological growth and economic prosperity.
