In a troubling incident that highlights the ongoing security threats from the Maoist insurgency in Chhattisgarh, two policemen were injured during a Naxalite attack on Sunday morning. This incident occurred amidst the weekly market in Jagargunda village, located in the insurgency-affected Sukma district.
Official reports indicate that a small group of Naxalites, comprising around four to five members, ambushed the policemen while they were providing security at the market. Armed with sharp-edged weapons, the assailants launched a sudden and violent attack on the unsuspecting officers. Following the assault, the Naxalites quickly fled into the dense forests surrounding the area.
Fortunately, the quick response from other security personnel present at the market prevented the situation from worsening. A comprehensive search operation was promptly initiated to apprehend the attackers, but they remain at large. The injured officers, assigned to the Jagargunda police station, were taken to a local hospital for treatment and are expected to be transferred to Sukma for further medical care.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent dangers posed by Naxalites in the region, despite ongoing efforts by security forces to mitigate their influence. The attack raises serious concerns about the safety of both civilians and security personnel in areas affected by the insurgency.
