NBC Correspondent Molly Hunter Announces Pregnancy: Welcoming a ‘Royal Baby’ in May

NBC News foreign correspondent Molly Hunter shared the exciting news of her pregnancy with the TODAY anchors during a live broadcast on April 22, 2023. The announcement came as a surprise to Hunter, who was reporting from London when TODAY co-anchor Hoda Kotb teased, “Someone else is going to be celebrating a birthday soon.” Hunter, visibly overjoyed and flustered, confirmed the news, saying, “My husband Will and I are expecting a baby in May!”

Hunter’s pregnancy journey has not been without its challenges. When the war broke out in the Middle East, she was six weeks pregnant and felt too nauseous to get on a plane. She made the difficult decision to inform her NBC bosses about her pregnancy, a decision she says she remains grateful for.

Despite the challenges, Hunter eventually felt well enough to report from the Middle East during her second trimester. She covered the conflict from Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank with a team of colleagues. Hunter’s experience on the ground gave her a unique perspective on the situation, particularly in relation to the 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza who lacked access to basic necessities.

Hunter expressed her surprise at the TODAY anchors’ on-air announcement of her pregnancy. “Can’t believe I didn’t see that coming from Hoda!” she said. “It felt special to feel that love and support from across the Atlantic.” Hunter added that she is proud to join the “TODAY parent club” and is excited to embrace the challenges and joys of motherhood.
