National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti have strongly condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks about Muslims during a poll speech. Speaking at a poll rally, PM Modi alleged that the Congress would redistribute the wealth of the people to Muslims if it came to power. He further claimed that the Congress plans to give the people’s hard-earned money and valuables, including mangalsutra, to “infiltrators” and “those who have more children”.
Responding to the Prime Minister’s statement, Dr. Abdullah expressed his sadness and regret, stating that such remarks targeting the minority community are deeply hurtful. He emphasized that Islam teaches Muslims to walk together with everyone and respect other religions. Dr. Abdullah asserted that anyone who snatches a mangalsutra is not a true Muslim and does not understand the teachings of Islam.
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti also denounced the BJP’s anti-Muslim agenda, accusing the party of destroying the social fabric of the majority Hindu community itself by radicalizing and criminalizing Hindu youth. She highlighted that the BJP’s slogans of crossing the 400-mark are proving hollow, and questioned the party’s claims that the Congress has distributed Hindu properties to Muslims during its 50 years of rule.
Mufti expressed support for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, commending his courage in fighting hate with a message of love and inclusiveness. She stated that the INDIA bloc supports Rahul Gandhi out of conviction, not dependent on their reciprocity. The leaders’ strong condemnation of Modi’s remarks highlights the growing concern over the BJP’s divisive and anti-minority rhetoric, which has been widely criticized by opposition leaders and civil society groups.
