Baba Siddique, a prominent NCP leader and former Maharashtra Minister, was tragically murdered on October 12, 2023. The incident occurred outside his son Zeeshan’s office in Nirmal Nagar, Bandra East, where he was shot at by three assailants. Baba Siddique succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital. Following the incident, Mumbai Police launched a swift investigation and have made significant progress. Four individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the murder. Dharmaraj Kashyap, one of the accused, initially claimed to be a minor, but an ossification test refuted this claim. Another accused, Gurmail Singh, was also remanded to Mumbai crime branch’s custody until the following Monday. The search for the third shooter, Shivakumar, who remains absconding, is ongoing.
On Sunday, October 15, Mumbai Police arrested another suspect, Pravin Lonkar, in Pune. Lonkar is believed to be the brother of Shubham Lonkar and is suspected to be involved in the conspiracy. Mumbai police officials believe that the Lonkar brothers allegedly recruited Dharmaraj Kashyap and Shivakumar Gautam to carry out the assassination.
The murder has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for swift justice. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured the public that no matter who is involved, the accused will face stringent action. He emphasized the state government’s commitment to safeguarding those facing threats.
